Ghetto Gastro

Jon Gray, Pierre Serrao, and Lester Walker are the Bronx-born culinary collective known as Ghetto Gastro.

Defining their own lane that merges food, art, music, fashion, and design. The Bronx is the birthplace of hip-hop and has long been a driver of global culture. Ghetto Gastro projects aim to uplift and celebrate the borough and its people, bringing the Bronx to the world and showing the world a broader narrative of where GG comes from. Through immersive experiences and storytelling, GG sparks larger conversations around race, identity, and economic empowerment.

Since launching in 2012, Ghetto Gastro explores global food traditions through the lens of the African diaspora and has designed mastermind campaigns and events for fashion designers, artists, entrepreneurs, musicians, and organizations. GG collaborators and creative partners include figures like Virgil Abloh, Nike, Cartier, Naomi Campbell, Beats by Dr. Dre, the Serpentine Galleries, the Museum of Modern Art, and many more. In 2020, Ghetto Gastro focused on grassroot initiatives and generating mutual aid relationships in the Bronx. They were nominated for the Basque Culinary World Prize for feeding their community during the onstart of the pandemic.

After nearly a decade of breaking boundaries among cultures and cuisines, in 2021 Ghetto Gastro raised the bar across industries. The collective released a custom line of kitchen appliances, CRUXGG, across Targets nationwide. This spring, they’ll release a line of cookware in Williams Sonoma. Their first cookbook will be published by Artisan in Fall 2022.
